NMAT by GMAC

NMAT by GMAC is an important National level MBA entrance exam conducted by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). NMAT by GMAC exam is the mandatory entrance test for MBA admission to NMIMS Mumbai and its other campuses as well as 20 other MBA colleges across India. 

 

NMAT Exam Full Form
NMAT is the abbreviated form for Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS) Management Aptitude Test. The exam was acquired by Graduate Management Admission Council in 2015 and therefore, the NMAT has been renamed as NMAT by GMAC.

 

Prior to 2015, Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai  used to conduct the NMAT exclusively for admission to its MBA programmes and therefore the full form of NMAT stood as NMIMS Management Aptitude Test. Now the NMAT score is accepted by 22 institutes in India and is conducted by GMAC its name has been changed to NMAT by GMAC.

 

NMAT Full Form: Don’t confuse with Medical Entrance
NMAT full form NMIMS Management Aptitude Test should not be confused with the National Medical Admission Test another (NMAT) as both are very different. Accordingly the NMAT is now NMAT by GMAC, a management aptitude test while other is medical course entrance test. arlier known as NMAT, the exam was conducted by NMIMS, Mumbai exclusively for MBA admission to all its campuses, but since 2015, the NMAT was acquired by GMAC and has been re-named as NMAT by GMAC. Since then GMAC has been conducting NMAT by GMAC for MBA admission not only to NMIMS University campuses but to 20 other MBA colleges.

 

The popularity of NMAT by GMAC exam is growing year after year. During last few years the number of NMAT by GMAC exam takers has gone upto 88,000.

 

What is NMAT by GMAC exam Structure
NMAT by GMAC is a computer based Test. Key features of The NMAT by GMAC exam are:

  • NMAT by GMAC is held in a 75 days test window from October 1st week to December 3rd week every year
  • During the 75 days Test window the NMAT by GMAC exam will have same exam structure
  • NMAT by GMAC is 2 hours computer based test divided in three sections with individual sectional time limit to attempt each section
  • Section-1: Language Skills with 32 questions of MCQ type to be solved in 22 minutes

The notification for NMAT by GMAC is released in the first week of July every year alongwith the start of the NMAT by GMAC Application. NMAT by GMAC Application window remains open till the first week of October.

Admit card for NMAT by GMAC Exam is released by GMAC in 24 hours after completion of your successful registration and completion of payment process on its website.  The admit card is a mandatory document to take the NMAT by GMAC exam. It contains your NMAT registration details and photograph. You should download the Admit card for NMAT by GMAC exam from the NMAT by GMAC website.

Who can apply

NMAT 2018 Eligibility criteria go as per the eligibility criteria for the selected MBA/PGDM programme. As such there is no specific NMAT 2018 eligibility criteria and the NMAC eligibility will depend upon the application/admission eligibility criteria of the respective MBA colleges. So remember:

 

 

No specific Eligility criteria for NMAT by GMAC: NMAT eligibility criteria 2018 have not been separately specified. Anyone with recognized bachelor’s degree below or above 50% marks can appear in NMAT by GMAC 2018 exam.
Check B-school Admission Criteria: NMAT eligibility criteria 2018 direct the applicant to check first the eligibility criteria of the MBA college where he/she wants to apply. If the particular MBA college accepting NMAT exam needs minimum 50% marks in graduation, it will be the responsibility of the candidate to ensure that he/she follows this NMAT eligibility criteria to be considered for admission by the respective institute.
No fee refund for ineligible candidates: One of the key points in NMAT eligibility criteria 2018 is that if the test taker registers for the test and then finds that he/she is not – eligible for admission to the desired program, no NMAT test fee refund will be made.

How to apply

NMAT Registration

NMAT 2018 registration and application process without late fee payment has been closed on October 3. However, the NMAT registration with late fee payment is open till October 14, 2018.

NMAT 2018 exam dates are from October 4 to December 17, 2018. The NMAT 2018 exam date and time slot can be self scheduled by the test taker. NMAT is an important national level MBA entrance test leading to admission in top MBA colleges like Narsee Monji Institute of Management (NMIMS) Mumbai;  Xavier University Bhubaneswar (XUB) for MBA-HRM, MBA-RM, MBA-UMG, MBA-SM and many other Universities & B-schools.

 

NMAT is a moderate difficulty MBA entrance exam. It is conducted in a 75 days testing window as a computer based test and can be self scheduled for the preferred date. The exam can be taken 3 times to improve the score to get admission in one of the top MBA colleges. The exam is free from negative marking and the preparation for the exam can be done on the lines of other national level exams like CAT/XAT/SNAP/CMAT. NMAT 2018 exam dates are from October 4 to December 17, 2018.

NMAT Registration last date is October 3, 2018. You can register and apply for NMAT ONLINE Only at the NMAT exam website. The NMAT 2018 registration process not only allows you to register and apply for NMAT by GMAC but also gives the facility to self schedule your exam date also. While the last date to apply without late fee for NMAT 2018 is October 3, you can apply for NMAT by GMAC even after the last date till October 14, by paying a nominal late fee for NMAT registration.

NMAT 2018 Registration: Salient features
NMAT Registration dates remain open from July 3 to October 3, 2018. To register and apply for NMAT by GMAC, you should keep following in mind:

  • Keep your Computer ready: For NMAT 2018 Registration, your computer system should be equipped with Internet Explorer v.6.0 and above or Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.
  • Gather your documents: You will need to enter all your personal details, academic qualifications upload photo and signature of required size and will have to make payment of NMAT 2018 exam fee online. So keep all your documents and instruments of payment ready to complete the NMAT by GMAC Registration.
  • Read instructions: Before moving on for NMAT registration 2018 and scheduling the exam date, you should read and follow the instructions for registration process to avoid any waste of time and money.
  • 15 minutes NMAT Registration process: Once you begin the NMAT registration process by entering your personal details, it will take hardly 15 minutes to complete the registration form 2018. You will receive a confirmation mail on successful submission of NMAT 2018 registration form after you make payment of the NMAT registration fee.
  • No change allowed after Submission: Please note that you will not be able to change the details in the NMAT registration form once you successfully submit it. So be careful while entering the details in registration form
  • Register Early: It will be better to complete NMAT registration and schedule the 2018 exam date to avoid non-availability of selected test centre on the preferred NMAT by GMAC exam date as the test center is allotted on the first come first serve basis.

NMAT Admit Card

NMAT Admit card 2018 for the NMAT exam, current held from October 4 to December 17, 2018, are released by GMAC in 24 hours after your successful registration and completion of payment of NMAT exam fee.  The NMAT exam admit card is a document that contains your NMAT registration details and photograph. In order to take the NMAT 2018 exam, you are required to produce the NMAT Admit Card 2018 along with other required documents on the NMAT by GMAC exam day as scheduled by you.

 

NMAT 2018 Admit Cards have been issued to all the candidates who applied for NMAT 2018 till October 14 (with late fee), and are issued for retake/rescheduling also that ends on December 14, 2018. NMAT Application process has been closed on October 14. All the candidates appearing in NMAT exam, have been issued the NMAT Admit card 2018 and updated Hall ticket to appear in the exam within a day from the successful registration with payment of registration fee as prescribed by GMAC.

How to Download NMAT Admit Card 2018: Key Steps

  • Download your NMAT Admit Card 2018 from your NMAT account.
  • Do not wait for any hard copy of NMAT 2018 Admit card as it will not be sent
  • Take print of the NMAT 2018 admit card and affix your photograph on it in the given space
  • Must carry the NMAT 2018 Admit Card to exam centre as it is the mandatory document to appear in the exam
  • You can download your NMAT Admit Card from your dashboard only after the payment of Application fee is realized.

NMAT Admit Card: Mandatory Document

  • NMAT 2018 Admit card is a document containing test taker registration details and photograph.
  • Test takers can download their Admit card from the “Admit Card” tab provided in the NMAT by GMAC account.
  • It is mandatory to carry the admit card along with required IDs, confirmation letter and photocopy of the primary ID to be allowed to enter the NMATtest centre.

 

NMAT Admit Card for Retake

  • You can download your NMAT Admit Card for Retake of the exam from your NMAT account
  • The same card with Retake exam date will be available for download
  • Your retake registration option will be enabled in your NMAT dashboard after your exam date.
  • You need to register for the retake by simply clicking on the Retake section and pay the retake registration fees.
  • There is no need to fill in the details again.
  • Once the registration for the retake is complete and retake registration fees is realized you will be able to schedule your retake exam.

Important Note for NMAT Retake

  • You can register for NMAT retake exam after your exam date
  • Schedule the retake exam date 15 or more days after your most recent date of attempt.
  • It implies that you should wait for 15 days before you can appear for a retake.
  • You can schedule your NMAT by GMAC any time during the retake scheduling window and can choose any slot which is minimum 24 hours later than the time you schedule your appointment.

NMAT by GMAC Admit Card instructions
The NMAT 2018 Admit card prescribes test day documents needed along with NMAT Admit card for verification and test taking at NMAT 2018 exam centres in India. These are:

  • Print out of Confirmation email
  • Admit Card: Candidates are required to download their NMAT Admit Card

from their NMAT account and take the print out of the same to test centre.

  • Photocopy of the Photo ID for submission at the test centre.
  • Other documents as advised by NMAT by GMAC for differently abled candidates.
  • One valid Photo ID and another signature ID in original form must be presented from

the list below for candidates taking NMAT exam in India: (Only one from the list is needed)

NMAT Admit card 2018: Key points to remember

  • Get your NMAT exam Admit Card signed by the test administrator at the designated place on the day of the NMAT exam.
  • Produce same signed NMAT by GMAC 2018 Admit Card, if you are opting to retake the NMAT exam. Please check that this NMAT 2018 Admit card is duly signed and stamped by the test Administrator.
  • Check your printed photograph on your NMAT 2018 Admit Card is clearly visible. If the photo is blank or not clearly visible, contact the help desk on official NMAT website or send email to update the photo. You will not be allowed to take the test if the test administrator is unable to match your photo.
  • No admission without NMAT Admit Card to the test Centre. If you do not carry NMAT exam Admit Card to the testing centre on the day of your scheduled exam, you will not be allowed to appear in the test. 
Structure and Pattern of NMAT

NMAT Exam Pattern

NMAT 2018 exam is scheduled from October 4 to December 17, 2018 as an online computer based test. So far, NMAT exam has remained moderate and on the expected exam pattern without any changes. NMAT test takers can expect a good score. However, there is the facility to retake the NMAT exam in case the NMAT exam score in first attempt is not satisfactory. You can view your results and then decide to apply to business school or retake the test depending on your comfort with the results you’ve obtained. 

 

NMAT exam pattern is similar to other leading national level MBA entrance exams like CAT and XAT. NMAT by GMAC 2018 exam pattern has remained on past 3 years trends. NMAT by GMAC 2018 Exam Pattern has remained computer based with MCQ question types. The NMAT 2018 exam pattern is divided in 3 sections namely Language Skills, Quantitative Skills and Logical Reasoning. The NMAT Exam Pattern also prescribes that all the three sections in NMAT exam are individually timed. Besides there is no negative marking in NMAT by GMAC exam pattern.

NMAT Exam Pattern: Salient Points

  • Online CBT: NMAT 2018 exam is online computer based test
  • MCQ format: All the questions in NMAT 2018 exam pattern are of Multiple Choice type (MCQs).
  • 120 questions: NMAT 2018 exam pattern as revealed so far and in the past notification also consists of 120 questions divided in 3 sections and are to be attempted in 120 minutes (2 hours)
  • Choice of order of sections: One of the unique features in NMAT 2018 exam pattern is that Test taker can choose order of sections in NMAT by GMAC. However, once order of the sections is selected, the NMAT test taker should follow this order.
  • Individually timed sections: In the revised NMAT exam pattern 2018, each section in NMAT 2018 exam is individually timed and the candidates have to attempt the questions in the respective section within the sectional time limit.
  • No negative marking: The NMAT 2018 exam pattern is without any penalty of negative marking. So, instead of skipping a question in the question paper,  you can use your calculated guess and mark the answer without the fear of a penalty for a wrong answer as there is no negative marking.
  • Moderate difficulty exam: The difficulty level is not so high as of IIMs-CAT and XLRI-XAT exams  in NMAT by GMAC exam pattern
  • Uniform Marking scheme: Another important feature of NMAT exam pattern is uniform marking system. Each correct answer is awarded +1 mark and there is zero marking for unattempted question
  • Facility to review answers: NMAT Test takers must review answers of each section within the allotted time before moving to another section of the exam, as once the candidate closes out of a section, he/she may not come back to the section
  • 3 Attempts allowed:  This is the biggest benefit of NMAT by GMAC exam pattern. You can take the NMAT by GMAC three times in a given admissions cycle. This gives you the opportunity to improve your score

NMAT Syllabus

NMAT by GMAC Exam from October 4 to December 17, 2018 has an updated Syllabus. To prepare well for NMAT this year, the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) has released the preparation guides with previous test papers also.

 

NMAT Syllabus with three major sections on English Language, Quant and Logical Reasoning is revamped with different type of questions appearing in each NMAT exam. GMAC releases every year the changes in test taking strategy and expected type of questions in the exam as per the NMAT syllabus.

Accordingly, the topics for NMAT Exam syllabus go on changing and there are many topics in NMAT syllabus 2018 on which questions, which did not appear earlier, may appear again this year. With effect from 2015 the NMAT exam syllabus has seen consistent changes. Recently, GMAC has also released the NMAT preparation guide in accordance with the changed NMAT by GMAC exam syllabus 2018.

Language Skills Syllabus

The Language Skills section in NMAT by GMAC exam covers the topics to test Reading Comprehension, Verbal Ability and  English Language Skills. The Language Skills section in NMAT by GMAC exam will test you on the following major topics spread in three broad segments:

Cover well the Language Skills Syllabus and attempt the exam – Key Tips

  • There will be 32 questions in the Language Skills section on the NMAT by GMAC exam. You need to attempt this section in 22 minutes.
  • Language Skills section will have the syllabus on all three areas of English—vocabulary, grammar and comprehension.
  • Manage your time carefully. You have an average of 40 seconds per question, but you will need some more time while attempting Reading Comprehension questions. Your target should be 30 seconds each for the rest of the questions, which will give you around 10-11 minutes to attempt the 7-8 Reading Comprehension questions that will appear on the test.
  • Ensure that you practice variety of questions in sufficient number to get your timing correct. It is particularly important for grammar questions as you will need to remember the important grammar rules.
  • Identify and strengthen your weak areas by maintaining an error sheet.
  • Improve your Reading comprehension as well as vocabulary. To cover this, start reading well-written books, or a good newspaper, every day. Ensure special attention to the Editorial section of newspapers as it has the most enriching vocabulary.
  • Improve your vocabulary and write down any new word you come across while reading the newspaper and go through it every day. Learn the word usage.
  • Do not assume the things and avoida using the real-world knowledge on RC based questions.

Logical Reasoning Syllabus
Questions in this section are based on Analytical reasoning, logical reasoning, critical reasoning, series completion in NMAT by GMAC. Logical Reasoning section measures your ability to comprehend and synthesise the information given in the question, without looking for or checking the truth or accuracy of that information. You  will be asked to draw inferences from the statements, choose between strong and weak arguments, identify assumptions implicit within innocuous-looking statements and even arrive at decisions in light of the given information.

 

You are also required to use your logical thinking skills on questions that require you to decode both numerical and visual patterns and series; make sense of relationships and understand directions. To crack Logical Reasoning questions, you should focus only on the information given to you and should not use any of your own knowledge, experiences or presumptions to impact your judgment.

 

The Logical Reasoning section on the NMAT by GMAC Exam tests you on the two broad areas of reasoning:

Important Tips to Cover the Syllabus for Logical Reasoning

  • There will be 40 questions in the Logical Reasoning section on the NMAT by GMAC exam. You need to attempt them in 38 minutes, so you have about 1 minute to solve each question.
  • You need to cover the syllabus on two areas of Reasoning—Verbal Reasoning and Analytical Reasoning.
